This report is a preliminary design study of a deep ocean drilling ship intended to be used as an intermediate step between our first rather crude experiments at sea in March and April of l96l and a ship that would be suitable for drilling to the Mono. This design substantially improves upon existing deep sea drilling machinery and it solves several problems which previously were ignored.
The ship, when built, will provide a new kind of platform from which experimental data, necessary to the design of a reliable Moho drilling ship, can be obtained.
